Chemical Properties | orange to yellow crystalline powder |
Uses | In photography. |
Uses | Potassium chloroplatinate is a red colored crystal that is soluble in water but less soluble in alcohol. Potassium chloroplatinate is produced by a complicated treatment of the reducing of platinum chloride with sulfurous gas and adding potassium chloride. It was used primarily in the platinum printing process, but also for toning silver prints. |
Hazard | Toxic by ingestion and inhalation. |
Safety Profile | Mutation data reported. Human systemic effects by intradermal route: dermatitis. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of K2O and Cl-. Used as a catalyst for carbonylation of alkynes. See also PLATINUM COMPOUNDS. |
Purification Methods | It crystallises from water (20mL/g) between 100o and 0o. Its solubility in H2O is 0.7% at 0o, 1.12% at 20o, 2.16% at 50o and 5.13% at 100o. [Grube in Handbook of Preparative Inorganic Chemistry (Ed. Brauer) Academic Press Vol II p 1571 1965.] |
